Overview of Metro Bogie

The metro bogie frame is the core structural framework of the bogie, known as the “backbone of the bogie.” It carries out the crucial functions of supporting the vehicle body, transmitting loads in all directions, and mounting key components such as the suspension system and drive unit. Its design directly impacts the bogie’s overall performance, operational stability, and service life, making it a technology-intensive and safety-critical component of metro vehicles.

This metro bogie frame utilizes a modular and lightweight design, combining cast steel materials with intelligent technology. It is suitable for different vehicle types (A, B, and L) and operating environments (mainline, urban, and cold/hot regions), meeting the operational demands of high loads, high frequency, and long service life.

  • The main structure utilizes ZG25MnNi high-strength cast steel, achieving an 18% weight reduction through topology optimization, while meeting the static and fatigue strength requirements of the EN12663 standard.
  • Key connection areas (such as the motor mount and brake hanger) feature locally thickened cast steel to improve local load-bearing capacity and avoid stress concentration.

Modular Design

  • The frame is divided into three modules: side sills, cross sills, and longitudinal connecting beams. This allows for quick assembly and disassembly and component replacement, reducing maintenance complexity and costs.
  • Reserved mounting interfaces for the motor, brake, and suspension system adapt to different vehicle models and powertrain configurations.

Intelligent Monitoring Integration

  • Fiber Bragg grating sensors are embedded in key stress areas of the frame (such as the junctions between the side sills and cross sills) to monitor stress and temperature in real time, supporting predictive maintenance.
  • A reserved wireless transmission module interface enables integration with the Vehicle Health Management (PHM) system for remote status monitoring.

Redundant Safety Design

  • The structural structure adheres to the principle of “no catastrophic consequences from a single point of failure.” Key connections feature a dual-redundancy design to ensure structural integrity under extreme operating conditions.
  • It has passed the EU EN13749 crash safety certification and has a 15 km/h collision energy absorption capacity.

Environmental Protection and Corrosion Resistance

  • The surface utilizes an electrophoretic coating and a Dacromet anti-corrosion coating, achieving a salt spray test corrosion resistance rating of ≥ 9 (ISO 9227), suitable for coastal and high-humidity environments.
  • The material recyclability is ≥ 90%, complying with the EU ELV directive.

Adaptable to high-density subway lines (minimum headway of 90 seconds), the frame fatigue strength design meets the requirements of 20 hours of daily operation.

Intercity Railway

The wide wheelbase frame (2500mm) supports speeds of 120 km/h, meeting the dynamic load requirements of rapid commuter networks from suburban areas to the city center.

Special Environment Lines

The cold-wet-type frame (-40°C cold start) utilizes low-temperature cast steel to avoid the risk of low-temperature brittle fracture.
The hot-wet-type frame is certified for C5-M corrosion resistance and is suitable for use on coastal/tropical routes.

Multimodal Transportation

By adjusting the wheelbase and interface design, it is compatible with new bogie types such as monorail and rubber-tyred rail (custom frame module development required).
